UAE tax filing deadlines — the specific rules behind the dates

Corporate Tax: The return and payment are both due 9 months after the end of the taxable period, which is typically your financial year-end. A business with a 31 December 2024 year-end must file and pay by 30 September 2025. If the deadline falls on a UAE public holiday or weekend, the FTA currently expects filing by the nearest preceding business day — do not wait for the next working day. There is no automatic extension mechanism for CT; any extension must be applied for formally and is rarely granted.

VAT: Returns are due 28 days after the end of each assigned tax period. The FTA assigns your tax period when you register — most businesses are placed on quarterly filing, but high-turnover businesses may be assigned monthly periods. You cannot choose to switch periods without FTA approval. The 28-day window covers both the return submission and the payment clearing to the FTA's account — late payment, even by hours, triggers the late-payment surcharge.

Your financial year-end is the date set in your company's constitutional documents or, for businesses without a formal year-end, defaults to 31 December. You can apply to the FTA to change your financial year, but any change requires approval and affects the length of your first CT taxable period. Businesses that incorporated mid-year often have a "short first year" — their first CT period may be less than 12 months, and the 9-month filing window still starts from the end of that short period.
